Bio
Briggs, a 1990 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law, is licensed to practice in Mississippi and Louisiana. Having initially practiced in New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast for several years, Briggs returned to his hometown of Vicksburg where he has established a strong litigation practice in the areas of business, insurance defense, administrative, education, and health care law. He represents several governmental entities (school districts and hospital) and businesses in the region. He is an “AV-Preeminent” rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.
A former President of the Mississippi Bar, Briggs has been a leader in numerous legal and community endeavors. He currently serves as a State Senator representing Warren, Yazoo and Issaquena Counties. In the Senate, he serves on numerous important committees, including Appropriations (Chairman), Education, Public Health and Welfare, and Judiciary “A”, to name a few.
Briggs is a member of the International Association of Defense Council, National School Board Association (Council of School Attorneys), Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, American Bar Association, Mississippi Bar, Louisiana State Bar Association, Warren County Bar, Southern Conference of Bar Presidents, and the Uniform Law Commission.
Briggs has been recognized as a Mid-South Super Lawyer in Business Litigation and as an Elite Lawyer of the South. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, the Mississippi Bar Foundation, and the Mississippi Bar Young Lawyers Division. He has received numerous legislative awards and other awards for his work in the legislature and the legal profession.
